Six Ouija Board Rules You Should Never Break! In honor of Halloween, six rules you should follow if you plan to play the dangerous game!
Ouija Board Rules
This Saturday is Halloween and I know this is the time of year people like to experiment with a Ouija Board. I’ve used a Ouija Board several times in different investigations and I had some very interesting results. Fans ask me a lot of questions about whether it’s good or bad to use a Ouija Board. One of the best resources on how to use a Ouija Board and the history behind the Ouija Board is the Talking Board Historical Society. They are the people behind OuijaCon, which I got to attend last Spring with my friend Sommer when she was working on her movie “Yes, No, Goodbye”. Recently on their Twitter account they released a list of six rules you should never break when you use the Ouija Board and I thought we would go over those rules today.
Rule #1: Never Use A Ouija Board Alone
Personally, I have used a Ouija Board with other people before multiple times, but I have always been skeptical about whether or not I would be able to use it by myself. I only tried that once at a haunted cemetery in Little Rock, Arkansas. Believe it or not, although it did not work, what ended up happening was my car broke down. Was that because I used a Ouija Board by myself and something cursed me? Or is it because I also broke rule number two?
Rule #2: Don’t Use a Ouija Board in a Cemetery
Aside from my bad experience in Little Rock I have actually used a Ouija Board in a cemetery before with my good friend Roger and we had a really active response. However, it also seemed like a spirit that was in a real rush to say goodbye and to leave us. So I have broken this rule and did something bad happen to me? No, but full disclosure, anytime you try to communicate with spirits on the other side you never know what you will bring in.
Rule #3: Don’t Burn a Ouija Board
I’ve never tried to burn a Ouija Board, largely because I have never had a bad Ouija Board experience. However, I have known a lot of people that have tried to a burn a Ouija Board to get rid of it. This goes back to that tall tale where if you try to get rid of a Ouija Board it will always work its way back to you. Either somebody will give you a Ouija Board as a gift or it will end up on your front door or other in other supernatural ways the Ouija Board will show up back at your home. Previously, I always thought burning a Ouija Board was the best way to get rid of it, but according to the Talking Board Historical Society that is a rule you should not break.
Rule #4: Don’t Leave a Planchette Alone on a Ouija Board
Now for those of you who don’t know what a planchette is, it’s the triangle device that you will use to spell the words. It’s believed to be bad luck to leave a planchette alone on the Ouija Board, although I think if I ever saw a planchette move by itself I would freak out and probably stop using Ouija Boards altogether.
Rule #5: Don’t Ask When You Will Die
Now personally, I have never asked a Ouija Board when I will die (I am not exactly sure I want to know that). I’m sure it can be pretty tempting to find out, but no matter what, we will all die one day. Caution beware.
Rule #6: Always Say Goodbye!
This an absolute given and a no-brainer, always say goodbye! Take the planchette down to the goodbye on the bottom of the board and tell the spirits you are closing the board and that you are leaving. Tell the spirits that none of them have permission to go home with you, or to stay with you, or to follow you. Basically tell it peace out and I am done with you. That way you try to give yourself some kind of protection in case you do come in contact with something evil.
